Dan, Alan said the water was "fine" (but we don't believe him). You're right - the key is to roll once, briskly, and not to fail! Glad to hear that you're not letting the cold stop you from getting out either. That Burns poetry is also quite Zen, isn't it? I have to admit, I'm rather looking forward to a small increase in temperatures. I think I've done enough freezing. I find myself harbouring visions of long, balmy summer days out paddling in t-shirts and shorts ... which is never quite the case in Scotland/the UK, is it?!

I think you're way past the obsession mark.
I have been out a couple of times this year too - pogies rock! And I am in the process of buying my first boat, so very exciting times for me.

Congratulations once again to Allan. What was his verdict on the water temperature - just how cold did it feel down there? I always claim that if you roll quickly enough you don't have time to get wet, still less cold. No one believes me (after all, it isn't true!) but it really seems that way. Or at least, it seems that way if I only roll once. If I roll a second time without waiting for a few minutes the cold goes straight in through my ears and freezes my brain. Not nice at all.

I was out in falling snow yesterday. It put me in mind of a certain Mr. R. Burns -
Or like the snow falls in the river,
A moment white - then melts for ever
Each snowflake actually took a good deal more than a moment to melt - I was on fresh water and it can't have been far off freezing.
